Hello,

As part of some coursework at university, I'm investigating the quantitiative/statistical analysis techniques used anywhere within the PRINCE2 management approach to properly, formally assess process performance (to better estimate which processes are more effective than others within an organisation, for example).

However, the only place that I can see PRINCE2 doing *any* statistical analysis is re: risk. There seems to be a complete lack of quantitative analysis regarding process performance.

Is risk indeed the only place where actual quantitiative analysis is done on data sets within Prince2? Confused

I'm surprised that you've identified any real analysis content even in risk. Unless you are talking about the risk profile example from risk management in the manual.

Prince2 is really a method based container. It makes no requirements or even recommendations for the tools or metrics used in projects.

For example, Quality Control is at the heart of Prince. The method spends a lot of time expounding the virtues of quality reviews and explains how quality criteria needs to be specified and applied to all management and specialist products - but it will never attempt to specify those criteria or how they should be measured and analysed - that's up to the business implementing the method.

The kind of thing I think you're describing is regularly used in Prince2 projects (I've not long finished a huge use-case point analysis on a requirements doc), but it doesn't form part of Prince2.

Is that what you were after?

Unless of course you've been given a question that's deeper than it seems and you're after the qualitative rather than quantitative feedback and review processes?

Thank you, you've basically confirmed my thoughts on the matter. However, not knowing enough about Prince2, I just needed confirmation that this non-prescriptive attitude was indeed taken by the P2 methodology - that although these *quantitative* techniques may be used, they aren't set out formally.

Thanks Smile
