I've raised this question with my MP and had a reply I'm very dissatisfied with from the OGC, so instead of whinging on my own I'd like to open up a topic and see if anyone else agrees.

Basically I am concerned that the dissemination of PRINCE2 is being controlled by the OGC to the short-sighted benefit of their budget and the consultants who created the standard, rather than UK business and the tax-payers who fund the standard. Look at the ridiculous price of the books themselves, and the utterly ridiculous price of the online versions. This myopism risks the take-up of inferior standards worldwide, as their proponents can see the obvious - publish or die. So we're going to end up with Microsoft's PMP or the PM Book of Knowledge running things, while a far superior UK-created solution languishes unknown because the civil servants who have coralled it are determined to squeeze every penny of short-term gain they can get out of it.

I cite two glaringly obvious examples of the low take-up of PRINCE2:
1) go to any job site you like, and count the proportion of PM jobs which even mention (let alone require) PRINCE2. It's usually well under 10%.
2) try any PRINCE2 approved software. They all stink.

There's one obvious way forwards for this and it's simple - free the standard. Stick the PDF online (or even better the overpriced online version) and let it prove it's merit. There is now no other way to beat the inferior competition given the head's start they have been allowed to gain.
If you've got a good excuse, don't use it

Yes I would strongly agree here ...I am PRINCE 2 certified and have looked at PMBOK and I can vouch that PRINCE2 is far more superior in terms of adoptability and practical sense....

unfortunately the steep prices are a key deterrent and it is not showcasing to the world the kind of exposure of a very high quality method that it really needs...

OGC need to take a look at this very soon ...and job markets (except for UK) hardly demands( and I am afraid knows!) for PRINCE2 certifications....
